Was the Switch the greatest console since the Atari 2600 ?

That was most people's first experience with a game console.
First, outside of North America, the NES was not as good as people claim, it was quite expensive and computer games were a strong contender at the time (on tapes that you can copy, because people were smart and maybe a bit more broke than in the US).

An European NES, in which you had to blow inside the cartridges.
Now that 80% of the readers are in total anger from the previous paragraph, let's go on to our subject.
Now, gori believes the Switch is the greatest console since the Atari 2600, which was many families' first experience of games on TV. It's sad that the 2600 is associated with the so-called video game crash and bad quality software, because honestly the games were good (if a little abstract), and catered to a wider audience than the NES "family-oriented" (censored) games.
Now, Gori's not a journalist, so don't expect sources or accuracy, this is just his opinion on the Nintendo Switch after 8 years of personally having the console.
To start, they say the Switch is underpowered, in fact they said it from even before it came out, and they still say it now, and they even say the same about the Switch 2, but is that so true when you consider it's a tablet ?
Lately Gori has played a lot on tablets, but it's fair to say that the Switch is still better optimized for gaming than general Android tablets, because of the Nvidia chip it carries.

Another version of the Atari 2600
While some games like Delta Force are amazing on tablet, it seems the Switch still has an edge, for example, it can play Doom Eternal in handheld mode with acceptable graphics and fast little to no lag, I didn't even try it on my tablet...
Yes, the Switch is no Xbox or Playstation, but to think that it can still play nice games in 2026, it surely wasn't overpowered, rather I think it was enough-powered, enough to hold on for almost ten years.
And second : compare it to the Switch 2, Nintendo tried to beef up the console and see the price increase ! Definitely out of reach for many, including Gori.
And the worst of it : people still say it's underpowered, I think even if they had a nuclear-powered supercomputer they would find things to say honestly...
Now if you remember the early days of the Switch, just after the Wii U trauma, we all started to say "the Switch has no games".
Man, were we wrong, ten years later, and almost every hit has been ported to the Switch, from arcade titles to Xbox360 ones, as much as I hate ports and remasters, it's true that it gave the Switch an immense catalog of very high quality games for us to enjoy.

Much better than Metroid Prime 4
New titles also have not been lacking. Sure, the early titles like Zelda Breath of the wild were mostly Wii U ports, but then came, entry after entry, a never stopping flow of new games to the console : you can play almost everything on it from hardcore FPS like Doom 2016 to japanese Role Playing games like Dragon Quest XI, detective games that reminds of the NDS era, family games like Mario and all, experimental titles like Sonic Frontiers, and western 1000-hours games like divinity Original sin(which I dislike but that's not the point), plus, there are CIV VI and VII running smoothly on the Switch, isn't that incredible ?.
I think I rarely saw so many games available on a console, the Wii had a lot, the PS2 also, but it seems the Switch is a free cash machine for developers, who accordingly port as many games as possible to the platform, and that's good for gamers' choice.

The Wikipad's company actually sued Nintendo for copying them.
The Switch 2 is not very innovative, so was the Gamecube (haters gonna hate). The Wii was a Revolution at the time, and so was the Switch.
I agree, it was not the first hybrid tablet (with controllers) on the market, the concept already existed before, but did you know about it ? What the Switch did right was mass production and commercialization of this concept, and for most people, it seemed like something new.
Suddenly Nintendo changed the market, there was no more split between handheld and TV console gaming, and the Switch managed to keep costs low, it was soon a mass-appeal success, especially with the kid-friendly Switch lite.
Anyway, now the Switch 2 is out, but I don't know if it will be such a massive success. They say sales are good, but let's see ten years on. After all, Switch games are still coming out daily (I know it because I receive a notification every time a new game comes out). And it's not shovelware, just normal medium-small sized games and sometimes big ones.
